Introduction
The Postgraduate Program in Transport at the University of Brasilia was created in 1988 as a Master in Urban Transport - MTU. At that time, it constituted an important step to supply the deficiencies in the training of highly qualified human resources in the Urban Transport Area, especially in the North and Midwest regions of the country. Its implementation occurred through an agreement signed between that University and the Federal Government, with support from the Brazilian Urban Transport Company (EBTU). The course was initially offered jointly by the departments of Civil Engineering, at the Faculty of Technology, and Urbanism, at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism.
From 1990 onwards, the Master in Urban Transport started to be administered exclusively by the Department of Civil Engineering, and, with the hiring of new professionals, the course matured and incorporated new areas of research and extension activities.
In 1998, the course's teachers implemented a bold project at the University of Brasilia, in partnership with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Transport, involving the creation of the Interdisciplinary Center for Transport Studies (CEFTRU). CEFTRU offers extension courses (short courses) and specialization courses, both for technical staff of transport companies and public agencies, as well as for professionals who wish to qualify for future activities in the transport area.
