Introduction
The Master in Bioethics aims to train professionals in the various contemporary ethical dilemmas that the great advances in the field of health, new technologies, the legislation on Personal Rights, and the areas of the environment and ecology deserve.
For this, the career is organized into four structures or subject nuclei, developed in two years of study:
Philosophical core: Through subjects such as Philosophical Ethics, Epistemological Bases, Self-understanding of Man, the great classical and contemporary philosophical currents that provide tools for ethical reflection are addressed. The contents cover the beginnings of ethics as applied philosophy, the beginning of Bioethics in its classical principlist theories, and the current views focused on the protection of Human Rights.
Applied Bioethics Nucleus: The subjects develop concepts related to Bioethics in medical practice, both healthcare and research; the legislative advances, the work in the Bioethics Committees, the new dimensions of medical responsibility and its associated documents such as informed consent and the protocols for data handling and Clinical Histories. The great dilemmas in research in and for health, pharmacological research, and the rights of patients are also focused on. Other aspects addressed in this nucleus are gender problems in the social and health spheres, access to reproductive health, and dilemmas around abortion and gender identity. In the nucleus of Applied Bioethics also in a complementary and integrated way to the problem, matters related to environmental protection, Ecology, the legal regime of natural resources, and their ethical dimension are contemplated.
Ethics in the sciences applied to health in emergency situations: The Master's Degree is also aimed at approaching the great dilemmas related to biotechnology and their implications at a regional or global level. It also delves into the repercussions of epidemiological research and the need for effective responses to emergency situations such as epidemics, pandemics, as well as the need to generate knowledge during times of epidemiological crisis to achieve progress inappropriate times for the benefit of humanity, all within the protective framework of Human Rights.
