Universitatea Româno-Germană din Sibiu was founded in 1998, as an autonomous structure within the University Foundation for European Integration, a legal entity under private law. In 1998, the “Paul Negulescu” Institute of Administrative Sciences established, as its sole founder, the University Foundation for European Integration (FUIE), within which the Universitatea Româno-Germană din Sibiu (URGS) was established, which is currently composed of the Faculty of Law and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Economics.
The name of the higher education institution and the specific content of the university curriculum were conceived taking into account the chance to capitalize on the strong regional tradition of relations with the European cultural and scientific space on the German chain. This idea was received particularly positively by the representatives of the German community in Romania and by the representatives of the German state in Romania, who officially offered their support in the practical realization of this ambitious project, as it results from the letters of agreement and support. from these authorities and structures.
