Introduction
The Master’s degree in Applied Data Science for Banking and Finance develops the student’s professional capabilities to leverage the challenges emerging from innovation by using interdisciplinary competencies.
For this reason, the study plan is based on three inter-dependent knowledge pillars:
- A technical-scientific area, to acquire computer science-oriented skills and the instruments for statistical analysis of data
- A corporate management area to develop analytical abilities within a company environment
- A financial economics area to create competencies for specific analysis in sectors addressed by this degree course.

Non-European residents
Candidates can request the “UCSC International Scholarship” while filling out the online application.
The UCSC International Scholarship is an annual tuition fee reduction promoted by Università Cattolica to foster the access of international students to degree programs.
The discount covers about 35% of the total cost.
Applicants are notified of the award by email when they receive an offer for admission.
For the academic year 2023/24, the tuition fee applicable to students who receive the UCSC International Scholarship is € 6,400.
This scholarship is automatically extended from year to year for the normal duration of the degree program. Successful candidates must maintain full-time enrolment status to finish their degrees on time. Should the candidate be unable to graduate on the expected date, all additional costs will be at the student’s expense.
In case students receive other forms of financial aid (scholarships and accommodation offered by EDUCatt), the UCSC International Scholarship will not be awarded.
EDUCatt is the non-profit foundation that develops actions and strategies to promote access to higher education (the so-called DSU: diritto allo studio universitario) on behalf of Università Cattolica.
Note: Student tuition and university fees are set by the end of May for the following academic year and may change after the first year of enrolment, although any variation with respect to this amount should be minor.

The study program is oriented to the following professional careers:
Business Analyst
Data collection, processing, and presentation to support the strategic decisions of a company. The role of a Business Analyst can take place in an independent way within the organization structure or, more likely, about other functions present in the organization (purchases and sales, finance, marketing, internal auditing, …) to provide support in the decision process.
A graduate student will be able to manage the entire process of data analysis, from the preliminary analysis to the requested information to the acquisition of data present in the organization or provided by external sources, their processing, and presentation.
Thanks to the acquired competencies: technical (data retrieval, management, and analysis), relational (synthesis and communications of the main results), and strategical (analysis of the information required to define the company strategies), the graduated student will be able to determine the data analysis areas most relevant concerning the company objectives and with greater potential, manage and analyze databases, design research experiments to support of strategical choices, interacting with other company functions.
As a consultant specializing in in data analysis, the graduate can work for consulting companies offering different services such as an analyst supporting the sales, purchases, and marketing departments within companies working in the business sector.
The graduate will be responsible for auditing for large organizations working in financial intermediation services and acting as a business financial analyst.
Financial Data Scientist
The professional figure is seen as a link and an analytical/interpretative support role of the decisional processes typical of banking and financial intermediaries, operating investing choices, capital allocation, evaluation, credit supply, evaluation, credit supply, and financial coverage based on the evidence of large data samples. The graduate will have technical (data retrieval, management, and analysis) and methodological (planification and organization of actions concerning data management) competencies to tackle challenging tasks within banking companies, financial intermediaries, corporate finance, and Government departments, carrying out the role of company consultant in every banking and financial area.
The Financial Data Scientist is a professional role very attractive to investment companies and funds, financial consultancy companies (in particular the FinTech sector), banking institutions, stock brokerage companies, asset management companies, pension funds, and government agencies. The Financial Data Scientist can work as an independent quantitative financial analyst as well as operate as a freelance consultant.
