Introduction
Master in Structural Design
This master's course specializing in Structural Design aims to train designers with a solid background in the area of structures, seeking to provide more advanced and specialized skills to civil engineers graduated before or after the Bologna Process, or with master's degrees in civil engineering, allowing for the deepening of knowledge in designing new structures, verifying and reinforcing existing structures, optimizing solutions by modelling structural behaviour closer to reality or even experimenting, through scientific knowledge and the use of more advanced and design-specific calculation tools, based on the new Structural Eurocodes.
At the end of the study cycle, the Masters in Structural Design are able to plan, conceive, design, build, inspect, manage, maintain and rehabilitate structures of any type of material and type, through advanced methodologies and tools that can increasingly realistically simulate physical behaviours, as well as integrating research, management, consulting and technical advisory teams.
The Master's Degree in Structural Design at the University of Aveiro stands out for its strong practical component, with special emphasis on the development of projects with practical use of advanced tools, and for the dynamism of the teaching staff that make up the RISCO research unit, rated very good by FCT, where knowledge is generated in a creative and innovative environment in which students enjoy and actively participate.

Career Opportunities
Masters in Structural Design, having acquired theoretical and practical training in advanced subjects related to the design of structures, can perform various functions or have the opportunity to progress in their careers in the case of graduates or masters in engineering already active, specifically in: structural design offices, civil construction and public works companies, in the planning, direction, management and supervision of structural works and in central and local administration services, in the areas of structures or that also integrate projects from other areas of civil engineering such as works of art of road or railway communication ways, support structures and foundations in geotechnics, hydraulic and maritime structures, restoration and rehabilitation works of the built heritage, and in the implementation of sustainable structural solutions, in the management and maintenance of projects.
