Introduction

Master in Publishing

The main objectives of the Master's in Editorial Studies are the following:

to provide both those who are starting a career in the editing and publishing sector and those that already have experience in this area with a deep vision and understanding of the structure, organisation and functioning of the publishing world in Portuguese and international contexts today; and to provide theoretical and practical training in the basic areas of publishing from a perspective of specialisation and professionalism;

to enable participants:

  • to take the book as an object of research, taking into account different approaches and study perspectives, e.g. literary, sociological, cultural-historical, aesthetic, linguistic, communicative, economic;
  • to investigate and understand the role of written culture, taking into account issues related to the book in contemporary society, as much from a cultural, as an economic, legal or technological point of view;
  • to develop critical capacities that underpin a correct and well-informed evaluation of the opportunities and problems associated with publishing;
  • to recognise the various typologies of publishing and the possibilities they offer to publishing (in paper form and in multimedia and digital formats);
  • to familiarise students with the new technologies applied to publishing;
  • to acquire solid knowledge about the process of creating and managing publishing enterprises, as well as about marketing and commercialisation in publishing.

to promote research in the Sciences of the Book and of Publishing.
