Introduction

Master in Mathematics for Teachers

The Master in Mathematics for Teachers is an opportunity for teachers to enrich their knowledge on mathematics topics related to the syllabus of elementary and secondary education.

As a result of the restructuring carried out in 2018, the span of applicants has been greatly enlarged: teachers from all levels of education in Portugal (recruitment groups 110, 230 and 500) or elsewhere, as well as holders of national or foreign higher education degrees in Mathematics or related area.

This master program constitutes, in its whole, a solid, updated and interdisciplinary professional development opportunity, oriented towards the resolution of real problems felt by teachers in their classrooms. This training will be based on: the deepening of major concepts of the fundamental areas of the master's degree (Mathematics, Didactics and Educational Technology and Educational Sciences); the exploration of concrete applications; and the use of new technologies. All this combined with a continuous reflection on the teaching practice and the sharing of experiences. The intention is to strengthen and consolidate not only the scientific training of teachers but also the sense of professional community, essential in the globalized world we live in.

This course lasts 3 semesters, however, teachers holding a pre-Bologna degree in Portugal can reduce the length of the teaching component through the accreditation of initial training, thus allowing the completion of the master's degree in one academic year. Holders of pre-Bologna Degrees in mathematics (or teaching of mathematics) will only have to carry out the dissertation and its associated seminar.
