Master in Materials Engineering
The Master in Materials Engineering (MEM) aims to prepare professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in metallic, ceramic, polymeric and composite materials science and technology that enable them to have long and productive careers with innovative interventions in industry and materials research.
More specifically, the objective of MEM is to train professionals:
- able to solve problems in new situations and actuate in the selection, use, processing and development of materials in traditional and emerging technological areas;
- able to create and apply quality criteria and define standards for certification of procedures and material testing;
- prepared for the challenges related to the field of Materials Engineering, able to respond to the actual and future requirements of the industry and materials development.

MSc graduates in Materials Engineering have found career opportunities in companies dealing with nanotechnology and biomaterials, components and metal molds, surface treatments and coatings, ceramics for tableware, sanitary ware, floor and wall tiles, natural products (cork, wood, etc.) and their derivatives, reinforced composites (glass fiber, carbon, etc.), glass, extrusion and injection of polymers, casting of alloys, heat treatments, recycling and recovery, inspection and certification, to name a few.
