Introduction
The Master of Science in the Plant Biotechnology Toxicology Area is a postgraduate program recognized for its HIGH QUALITY at the Consolidation level granted by CONACYT in the National Quality Postgraduate Program (PNPC).
This is a postgraduate program committed to the training of highly trained human resources in the Areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology, thus collaborating in the development of these areas of knowledge in the state and in the country.
The program offers a common trunk and two areas of terminal specialization, in addition the educational experiences offered are not exclusive to the classroom. There is an important component of practical work in the laboratory, research and information search individually by the students. We do not have a series of subjects, except for Research Seminars, which are tutorial courses.
The main educational experience of the program is the planning and completion of a thesis work by the student. The work of research stays of the students at a national level, preferably international, is also promoted, in laboratories other than the one to which their thesis work is assigned. This both inside and outside the Institution or even outside the state or country. There have been cases of students who carried out or completely carry out their thesis work outside the UAA. Examples of this are theses carried out at the CINVESTAV-IPN Campus Guanajuato and in Institutions in the United States of America or Canada.
The lines of research offered by the master's degree are the following:
- Toxicology
- Vegetal biotechnology
goals
General purpose
- Train professionals, professors and researchers, with a high academic level in the areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology.
- Train graduates to search, acquire and integrate knowledge of their specialty and related disciplines with scientific criteria.
- Encourage graduates to rigorously analyze scientific information, stimulating their ability to update and enrich their knowledge, as well as to identify problems and propose solutions.
- Train graduates in the use of research techniques and methods applicable to their specialty, so that they participate in the generation of knowledge.
- Promote their ability to adapt or develop methodologies, as well as to solve practical problems in their area of knowledge.
Specific objectives of the Plant Biotechnology area
Train professionals capable of:
- Describe the biochemical, physiological and molecular principles that govern plants.
- Efficiently manage techniques and methods related to Plant Biotechnology.
- Design and develop research and technological development projects in the area of Plant Biotechnology.
- Develop methods and strategies aimed at solving problems related to agricultural productivity and obtaining plant products through the use of Biotechnology.
Particular objectives of the Toxicology area
Train professionals capable of:
- Analyze the actions and harmful effects produced by toxic substances on living beings.
- Efficiently handle analytical techniques and methods related to toxicology.
- Participate in the identification and evaluation of toxicity risks from environmental or occupational exposure to xenobiotics, as well as develop preventive and corrective measures for environmental contamination and toxicity problems in the work environment.
- Collaborate in the generation of knowledge in the toxicological area through the development of research projects.
- Promote the formation of a social conscience for the rational use of natural resources and the adequate management of toxic substances in agricultural, industrial and domestic activities.
Requirements to obtain the degree
In order to obtain the Master of Science Degree, the following must be met:
- Accredit all subjects, seminars, activities indicated in the study plan.
- Obtain a minimum overall grade point average of 8.0.
- Present and defend the degree work in a public degree exam and pass it within a period of no more than six months after graduating from the program.
Graduation profile
general
Knowledge
- The graduate will know the fundamentals, as well as the most recent advances, in the areas of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology. In addition, you will learn how to design and carry out a scientific research project and you will know how to identify and use the sources of information that can support you for this purpose.
Abilities
- The graduate will have the necessary ability to select or design those models that allow directing the experimental development of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology to the solution of practical problems related to these fields of study. They will be able to apply the appropriate instrumental and methodological techniques to obtain the required information and will have the ability to interpret the results generated and draw conclusions from them.
Attitudes
- The graduate will develop an open attitude towards new knowledge, but at the same time will be able to analyze it with scientific rigor. You will know that the ultimate goal of your knowledge is the solution of practical problems that can be dealt with by applying knowledge in the area of Plant Biotechnology or Toxicology.
