Introduction
The Master's Degree in Educational Research is a postgraduate program recognized for its HIGH QUALITY at the Consolidation level granted by CONACYT in the National Quality Postgraduate Program (PNPC).
It is a program aimed at training educational researchers that emphasizes the methodological and technical aspects of research. In other words, it is a program whose strength lies in the methodological training provided, including the guidance and effective support offered to students for the development of their thesis throughout the semesters that make up the study plan.
The lines that organize the research work of the professors who support the Master's Degree in Educational Research are:
- Learning and teaching: curricular and development processes
- Actors, institutions, systems and educational policies.
General purpose
Train critical and creative specialists in education with the skills to design and carry out research projects, to contribute to the knowledge of education and educational systems, as well as to collaborate in the design and implementation of actions aimed at improving quality of Education.
Specific objectives
The Master in Educational Research will promote that its students:
- Express a well-founded vision of the development of the national education system and carry out a critical assessment of its problems and identify and explain needs for the generation and application of knowledge.
- Identify and express a synthesis of the theoretical contributions of the disciplines that study education and distinguish their contribution to the understanding of educational phenomena.
- Identify and explain the characteristics of the main methodological and technical traditions in the field of educational research and apply the elements they contribute to the development of research activities.
- Effectively integrate the theoretical and empirical dimensions of scientific work, and rigorously and argumentatively apply the most appropriate methodological and technical approaches to the research activity they carry out.
- Show a positive attitude towards education, its study and the promotion of its improvement with the support of knowledge generated through systematic research processes.
- They join work teams in which they collaborate in the design, management and operation of educational improvement projects.
Graduation profile
Graduates of the Master's in Educational Research must state that they have acquired and developed a set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in accordance with the mission, vision, and objectives of the program. The following are the distinctive features of the profile of the graduate who is aspired to:
Knowledge:
- Clearly describe an overview of the genesis, structure, main development problems and educational policies of the national education system.
- Identify and analyze the main characteristics of the epistemological foundations of scientific knowledge.
- Identify and critically analyze a multidisciplinary scientific perspective on the main facts and theories of education.
- Explain the characteristics of the main approaches to scientific research in general and educational research in particular.
- Apply a variety of techniques for obtaining and analyzing information in a pertinent manner.
Abilities:
- Express ideas orally and in writing, with clarity, order and with the arguments that support them.
- Identify relevant theoretical or practical problems about the knowledge of education, in order to propose and formulate approaches aimed at carrying out relevant and original educational research that shows the student's ability to work independently.
- Reflexively, critically, analytically, consistently and systematically apply or use the logic of the scientific research process in the formulation and testing of hypotheses or conjectures.
- Develop systematic and intentional methodological processes for the search, analysis and systematization of documentary information.
- Develop systematic and intentional methodological processes for the treatment, systematization and analysis of empirical information under different methodological approaches.
- Write research reports and prepare documents with the necessary characteristics to enter the academic circuits for the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Attitudes:
- Show willingness to systematically analyze the development needs of educational systems.
- Show openness towards different conceptions of the educational phenomenon, as well as towards different epistemological, theoretical and methodological approaches to scientific and educational research.
- Show willingness and actions leading to work both collaboratively and independently, responsibly assuming the tasks that correspond to them.
- Show indicators of responsibility to carry out intellectual work and scientific research as means of knowledge of the social and educational reality and as supports for decision-making and the improvement of education.
- Carry out an argumentative and rigorous discussion of research projects in their different phases of development and show openness towards the critical opinion of others about their own academic work.
Values:
Use the MIE code of ethics that will guide their professional practice as experts in educational inquiry, in relation to society in general, institutions, their colleagues, national education, and themselves.
Reaffirm and show indicators of the ethical principles of a researcher and of the central task that is research, in particular:
- intellectual honesty
- social responsibility
- the respect due to the subjects involved in an investigation
- pluralism
- the tolerance
Note: Attitudes and values are distinguished for analytical purposes but are related. Its assessment will be carried out throughout the entire training process in transversal axes, observing and recording their indicators.
Requirements to obtain the degree
- Accredit all the subjects and academic activities indicated in the study plan, and have obtained a general grade average equal to or greater than 8.0.
- Have at least one article in the review process or a paper or contribution approved for presentation at a local or national academic event.
- Present and defend the thesis prepared within the framework of the master's degree in public examination of degree and approval of it.
- In accordance with the provisions of the General Teaching Regulations, graduates must submit the corresponding application and take their degree exam no later than one year after completing their studies. In order to keep the record in the PNPC, students must submit the corresponding application and take their degree exam within six months after completing their studies.
