Umeå University was founded in 1965 and is Sweden's fifth oldest university. Today, we have a strong international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. Campus Features
Our Campuses
Umeå University's Campus Umeå is the main campus and is patterned after the American Campus model. Consequently, almost all of the courses and programmes that are taught in English take place on Campus Umeå or at the adjacent University Hospital.
Campus Umeå
There are actually two campuses in Umeå, the largest city in northern Sweden. Campus Umeå is the main campus and focal centre of Umeå University, and the vast majority of the courses and programmes are held in its many buildings and facilities. The University Library with its 1.2 million volumes and Universum, the campus' hub, with its pubs, cafés, restaurants, bookstore, student study rooms and so on are also situated on Campus Umeå
Umeå Arts Campus
Umeå Arts Campus (konstnärligt campus) - currently in development - is situated on the east side of town by the scenic banks of the Umeå River and is within a short walking distance of Campus Umeå. It hosts the Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and Umeå School of Architecture. HUMlab-X also has been given a place at this Arts campus along with Bildmuseet, Umeå University's museum of contemporary art and visual culture.
Online education
In addition to campus education thousands of people who are enrolled in our wide selection of distance education courses and programmes have the flexibility of primarily studying in their home environments.
