Master

Research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is conducted by 19 senior faculty members, seven professors emeriti, 18 research associates, between five and 10 post-doctorates, about 40 Ph.D. students, and about six MSc students.

The M.Sc. degree is intended for candidates who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree, earned a minimum grade point average of 84, and fulfilled Technion's general requirements for graduate studies. Acceptance to the program is subject to an interview, in which the candidate's level of relevant knowledge will be assessed. In addition, the committee for advanced degrees may consider the candidate's ranking.

A master’s degree research proposal must be submitted by the end of the first semester at the very latest. Students are required to conduct research, present a seminar on their research topic, submit a thesis, and pass the final examinations.

Admissions Option 2

MSc and Ph.D. students are eligible for a full subsistence scholarship (with a waiver of tuition).

Details about eligibility, the duration, and the conditions of the scholarships are according to the Graduate School’s procedures. The sum of the scholarship is uniform. Outstanding BSc graduates are eligible for an additional scholarship during their graduate studies.

Scholarships and Funding Option 2

The department’s research covers most of the important and advanced topics in materials science and engineering, with an emphasis on structure, properties, and processing of materials.

Each of the research topics is at the forefront of science and materials engineering, and research is often conducted in collaboration with industry, and with other scientists in Israel and abroad.

In addition to individual laboratories managed by faculty members, the department has established the Materials Research Center. The Materials Research Center manages several unique central laboratories, which provide use and service to faculty at the department, at the Technion, from other universities, and industry. These central laboratories include The Electron Microscopy Center, The X-Ray Diffraction Laboratory, The Laboratory for Physical Measurements, and the department's Machine Shop. In addition, staff from the various laboratories of the Materials Research Center support equipment at the Student Lab, which is primarily used for educating undergraduate students.
