Introduction
Dealing with change in complex societies
The program enables the development of the kind of knowledge and expertise that is needed to lead and analyze complex change processes. It responds to the need for new kinds of leadership skills, which are in demand at local, national, international, and global levels.
By interacting with staff members from various disciplines as well as with different societal stakeholders, students will learn to foster new forms of engagement across sectors of the economy and society. The program prepares the graduates to work in the private, public, or third sector in tasks that involve analyzing, planning, and steering complex change processes.
The administrative science specialization provides students with sound academic skills for anticipating, analyzing, and responding to the complex, dynamic challenges facing contemporary public sector organizations and institutions. The specialization focuses on governance issues in the context of public sector reforms and novel collaboration forms.
A cross-cutting theme of the specialization is the role of public governance in fostering socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable societies. The studies consist of interdisciplinary joint studies, specialization-specific advanced studies, free choice studies, and a Master’s thesis. 1) Governance for Sustainable Change
This specialization in administrative sciences provides students with sound academic skills for anticipating, analyzing, and responding to the complex, dynamic challenges facing contemporary public sector organizations and institutions. The specialization focuses on governance issues in the context of public sector reforms and novel collaboration forms. A cross-cutting theme of the specialization is the role of public governance in fostering socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable societies.
The specialization considers governance challenges at local, regional, national, and international levels and offers students the opportunity to specialize in issues best responding to their particular interests. The teaching staff consists of distinguished experts in the fields of public administration and management as well as environmental and regional policy.
Students graduating from this specialization will be awarded a Master of Administrative Sciences degree.
2) Sustainable Business Management
The specialization in business provides students with an in-depth understanding of managing change in the contemporary business landscape. Students will explore how societal and technological change redefines the boundaries of and possibilities for the sustainable renewal of business value creation and innovations. The focus will be placed on understanding the challenges and opportunities business organizations face when trying to create sustainable solutions. Students will learn to analyze and apply business concepts that will benefit customers, employees, and owners as well as other stakeholders and society at large.
The business specialization comprises studies in management and organizations, economics, risk management, customer-oriented marketing, management accounting, and responsible business.
Students graduating from this specialization will be awarded a Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration) degree.
Structure of studies
The programme (120 ECTS credits) consists of four elements: interdisciplinary joint studies, specialization-specific advanced studies, free choice studies, and a Master’s thesis.
Program Outcome
After completing the Master’s Programme in Leadership for Change you will have:
- An advanced understanding of the role of leadership in solving contemporary challenges at local, national, regional, and global levels.
- Learned to examine global trends such as digitalization, urbanization, climate change, aging, polarization, democratization, and integration from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Acquired the skills to foster new forms of engagement across sectors of the economy and society, learned in interaction with staff members from various disciplines – business, governance, politics, and international relations – as well as with different societal stakeholders.
- Mastered the theoretical and methodological skills to formulate relevant research problems and undertake independent scientific work.
- Learned the skills to analyze and debate the challenges that leadership faces today and to communicate your views to multiple audiences using different channels of communication.
Scholarships and Funding
Tampere University tuition fee scholarships
Tampere University tuition fee scholarships awarded at admission cover 100% of the tuition fees for the program duration. The program duration is
- three years for Bachelor’s degrees
- two years for Master’s degrees
- five years if the study right is granted for both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree.
Finland Scholarship
Finland scholarships awarded by Tampere University are part of the national Finland Scholarship program. Applicants to Master's programs are eligible to apply. Finland scholarships are awarded at Tampere University to the most merited applicant in each Master's program.
Finland scholarships cover the program tuition fee for the first year of studies and include a 5000 € relocation grant, paid to the student's Finnish bank account after the student has arrived in Tampere and started studies at Tampere University.
In addition, Tampere University awards a Tampere University tuition fee scholarship for the second year of studies to all recipients of the Finland scholarship. The scholarship covers 100 % of tuition fees in the second year of studies.
Early bird offer
In addition to scholarships, an early bird offer is available at admission to all fee-paying students, excluding students who have been awarded a Tampere University tuition fee scholarship or a Finland scholarship at admission. The early bird offer gives a 50 % reduction on the program tuition fee during the first year of studies.
Students may take advantage of the early bird offer by accepting the offered study place and paying 50% of the first-year tuition fee within two weeks after receiving information on admission.
This offer is valid only for the first year of studies. During consecutive years of study, all fee-paying students are eligible to apply for Tampere University Scholarships awarded during studies.
