Do you want to explore the forest's key role in a sustainable economy? Gain expert knowledge about the forest industry and its sustainability potential. The master's program in forest bioeconomy opens doors to careers in forestry, consulting, and more.
This program is designed for students with a social or natural sciences background who wish to enhance their knowledge about the role of forests in sustainable development towards a bioeconomy. The program covers the entire forest value chain, from wood to finished products, and how they can help contribute to sustainable development for society.
You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the forest sector, including its products, processes, and systems. With your unique combination of business and economic studies, sustainability, and forestry expertise, you will play a significant role in shaping the future of society, where knowledge of sustainability is highly valuable.
You will study the program at the campus in Uppsala. You will have the opportunity to learn from other students in different programs, which will help you gain insights into multiple areas.

Curriculum
Throughout this program, you will be trained to lead and organize processes that aim to implement sustainability, circularity, and bioeconomy within the forest sector. In the first year, you will gain in-depth knowledge of the global forest sector, business studies such as marketing and value chains, and some economics such as markets and market functions. Additionally, you will acquire knowledge about the properties of wood materials and the potential for innovation.
In the following year, you will deepen your understanding of economy in a global context, sustainability, sustainability reports, as well as research methods. During the Master's thesis, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge, abilities, and approach within the main area and further enhance your understanding of a specific subject.
You also have the freedom to study courses outside of the proposed framework schedule, either at SLU or another university in Sweden or abroad. There are many excellent opportunities for exchange studies at one of SLU's partner universities worldwide.

Program Outcome
The Master’s program in Forest Bioeconomy aims at a Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) with Bioeconomy Management as the main field of study, a general qualification.
Students who fulfill the qualification requirements for the Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) will be provided with a degree certificate upon request. The degree certificate will specify the qualification as Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) with a major in Bioeconomy Management (masterexamen med huvudområdet bioekonomimanagement).

The program contains courses that, depending on courses taken and combination with previous studies within certain bachelor programs at SLU, may provide the requirements of 300 credits in total for the professional degree Jägmästarexamen (Master of Science in Forestry). The programme includes courses that can be used as the foundation for fulfilling the requirements for the professional forester's degree, depending on the courses you choose and your previous studies at the bachelor's level.
