We train students on various approaches to clinical mental health counseling.
Excellent Clinical Training
Through teaching, training, and modeling observed in the classroom and in the field, you;ll discover how to serve the individual mental health needs of diverse clients and communities. Our courses are offered face-to-face.

Accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is the recognized gold standard for mental health counseling training.
Students graduating from the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree at Spalding University are eligible to sit for the National Counselor Examination (NCE), the certification exam required to become a licensed counselor.

Program Outcome
Why should I attend a CACREP-accredited program?
Benefits to graduating from a program accredited by CACREP, include:
- A wider range of employment opportunities
- A streamlined state counseling licensing application process
- An advantage when applying to doctoral degree programs
Additionally, completing a CACREP-accredited program can fulfill the education requirements to sit for the National Counselor Examination (NCE), the certification exam to become a licensed counselor.
Since the program’s inception in 2020, there have been 14 students to graduate with a degree in clinical mental health counseling.
Program Objectives
- To develop a professional identity as a proficient professional clinical counselor.
- To develop a professional counselor who understands the multicultural implications of working with diverse persons in a pluralistic society.
- To develop a professional counselor who understands the relationship of human development, the nature of persons, and the environmental impact on the individual.
- To develop individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate intake, assessment, and treatment planning to individuals impacted by trauma, crisis, and life transitional experiences.
- To develop proficient professional counselors who exhibit clinical counseling skills.

Assistantships and Program Scholarships

Endowed and Named Scholarships
Our endowed and named scholarships are funded by gifts from alumni, friends and faculty of Spalding. Scholarships are awarded annually based on financial need. Completed application for admission and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are required. Award amounts and qualifications vary by scholarship, but funding is available to students across academic programs. Learn more about our endowed and named scholarships.
Alumni Discount
Spalding graduates with a bachelors or masters degree may qualify for a 10% discount on tuition for the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Master of Science in Business Communication, Doctor of Social Work, and Post-professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate.
