Introduction
Learn to develop and apply your technical knowledge to the world of sport in this applied course aimed at motivated graduates.
- Gain the skills and knowledge to work at the cutting edge of research and development in the sports equipment industry.
- Develop a biomechanical and physiological understanding of athletes so you can analyze athlete-equipment interactions in sports.
- Have the opportunity to work abroad – with the possibility of Erasmus funding being available for European placements.
In this course, you’ll enhance your technical, problem-solving, and engineering skills and learn to apply them to the sporting environment.
Curriculum
All our courses are designed around key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
You’ll gain practical experience in techniques relevant to the sports engineering industry. You'll learn how to use engineering software and hardware – taught by experts who have a wealth of experience to share.

Applied learning
Work placements
You’ll have the opportunity to complete an industry-linked research project to develop your practical understanding of sports engineering, gain vital real-world experience, and improve your employability. Recent student projects have been partnered with organizations such as Adidas, Ping, Mitre, FIFA, the International Tennis Federation, and the English Institute of Sport.
You’ll also be provided with a significant number of opportunities to undertake additional placements, internships, and volunteer roles. You’ll be encouraged to develop your own experiences to enhance your career.
Networking opportunities
The course is delivered by the Sports Engineering Research Group, an internationally renowned group with over 200 years of cumulative experience in delivering research and consultancy. We have a large number of research staff and PhD students combined with a great alumni network, so you’ll be exposed to some of the latest research in the industry.
We have close relationships with many different sports companies and organizations and work extensively to enhance elite performance across many sports through our role as an English Institute of Sport research and innovation partner.
