Introduction
Our Sustainability Management program is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in economics and business management with a focus on sustainability.
The Sustainability Management program at SDU Esbjerg provides students with the knowledge and skills to lead companies and organizations towards more sustainable practices and to contribute to a more environmentally, socially, and economically conscious future. Through a combination of lectures, seminars, and practical projects, students gain an in-depth understanding of sustainability concepts and tools.
Students learn to assess the environmental and social impacts of organizations, develop sustainability strategies, and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability interventions. Additionally, they acquire skills in methods that support decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to drive sustainable practices within organizations.

Curriculum
The master's program in Sustainability Management spans a two-year duration with full-time engagement. It comprises a total of 60 ECTS credits, distributed as 8 compulsory courses of 7.5 ECTS credits each, 30 ECTS credits dedicated to elective courses, and a thesis project equivalent to 30 ECTS credits.
The eight mandatory courses are scheduled within the initial two semesters of the program, providing a solid foundation of Sustainability Management. These include, for instance, the courses “Sustainability in Marketing and Consumer Behavior”, “Developing Business Models for Sustainability”, and “Green Business”.
Elective courses are typically offered during the third semester, giving students flexibility to customize their curriculum. These electives can be taken at Campus Esbjerg, pursued abroad, or structured as project-oriented studies, including internships. The thesis project offers students the opportunity to delve deeply into a specific area of interest, applying their acquired knowledge and research skills.
Through a dynamic blend of lectures, seminars, and hands-on projects, students will cultivate a profound understanding of sustainability concepts and tools required in economics and business management. Our program equips students to assess the environmental and social impacts of organizations, craft sustainability strategies, and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability interventions. They will also develop skills in decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning, all essential for driving sustainability within businesses and organizations.

Graduates work in a wide range of industries, such as energy, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, transportation and logistics, retailer and consumer goods, and consulting, and have positions within practically all administrative areas for example business development, strategy, human resource management, project management, or innovation management.
Among others, the program qualifies students for positions such as Sustainability Manager, Sustainability Business Analyst, Sustainability Business Consultant, Business management consultant, and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. Finally, students can also choose to apply for a Ph.D. position and pursue an academic career.
