The English and Anglo-American Studies Master’s Degree Course (EAAS) is addressed to native English students, or L2 English speakers (national or international). The course is characterized, in the single curriculum form, by a first-year which aims at improving the students' language learning and study of the literature of specific areas with an interdisciplinary approach.
The course is characterized, in the single curriculum form, by a first-year which aims at improving the students' language learning and study of the literature of specific areas with an interdisciplinary approach. This is provided by two mandatory courses. Electives groups/mandatory courses complete the first year, with at least one in Italian Language and Philology (they allow the student to connect the culture studied with their own, and the international student to establish a deeper knowledge of the host country and specific cultural relationships); with at least one course in the metalinguistic area (Linguistics or Philosophy of Language), and also courses addressed to specific study plans: the language and its history, or the literature and the English and American combinations. In addition to this, a course on second language teaching allows the student to pursue a career in the teaching area.
In the second year, the student can choose among linguistic courses or modules in the historical and literary-critic area. Regarding the literature courses, the student must choose between the English area of interest or the American one. On the Linguistic side, the course offers specialistic courses focused on translation, with teachings dedicated also to sectoral and technical languages especially for audiovisual media.
The Course is integrated from the very first year with a series of electives and optional exams like courses from digital humanities, to other western cultures, to fashion, art history, to the “new world cultures” and to sociology, with further CFU useful for teaching in the upper secondary school; The Study Plan is completed with Other Training Activities (6 AAF) and of course, with the Final Dissertation, which is worth 24 CFU, whose goal is to ensure the achievement of the student’s linguistic-rhetorical abilities, acquisition, and implementation of research methods, with objectives of relative originality.
