Rutgers School of Engineering’s Master's degree programs are aimed at students interested in furthering their knowledge in a particular engineering discipline for industrial and research advancement. We offer nine-degree programs through seven engineering departments along with a global commitment to advanced research and scholarship.
A core curriculum of fundamentals is augmented with electives that enable students to focus on areas with direct relevance to innovations at the forefront of research. Its Master of Science and Master of Engineering programs give students the technical training they need to assume leadership roles in everything from research and academia to the public sector and industry. Students study in state-of-the-art laboratories with an accomplished faculty committed to research that advances the state of knowledge and practice in the field – and that solves complex, relevant engineering problems.
Our new career-directed Master of Engineering degree program is ideal for professionals looking to enhance their career opportunities in industries ranging from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to transportation, infrastructure, financial systems – and more. In addition, a fully-online Master of Engineering degree is now available.
A pre-requisite to a doctoral degree, the Master of Science program integrates theory with applied training, diversified coursework, and hands-on learning and research. Students in our research-directed MS degree program receive advanced training in three-degree options:
- Industrial and Systems Engineering
- Production and Manufacturing Systems Engineering
- Quality Reliability Engineering
Degree Options
ISE students pursuing their MS degree have a thesis or non-thesis degree option, while MEng candidates pursue a non-thesis option.
The MEng degree is also available as a fully-online program.
MS (thesis): 30 Course Credits
The program’s required 30 credits include 24 credits of coursework in core engineering areas of data analysis, decision-making, and planning, plus electives, as well as a six-credit thesis. Students will give a formal one-hour thesis presentation.
MS (non-thesis): 30 credits
The program’s required 30 credits include coursework in core engineering areas of data analysis, decision-making, and planning, plus electives. Students must write a research report on an ISE topic that they will present at a public seminar.
MEng (non-thesis): 30 Course Credits
Program requirements include at least 30 credits, with at least 18 credits of coursework selected from the ISE department, plus electives and an industry internship or capstone project.
Admissions for 2023
Please be advised, the GRE requirement has been waived for ISE students applying for the 2023 academic year.
