Rutgers School of Engineering’s Master degree programs are aimed at students interested in furthering their knowledge in a particular engineering discipline for industrial and research advancement. We offer nine-degree programs through seven engineering departments along with a global commitment to advanced research and scholarship.

Advancing Engineering Leaders
Rutgers School of Engineering provides students with a strong technical background and prepares them for leadership careers in exciting and challenging professions. Both our teaching and research are firmly rooted in scientific principles while incorporating knowledge of today’s challenges.
- Master of Engineering (MEng)
Energy is a Rutgers priority and our Master of Engineering in Energy Systems Engineering program is one of a few of its kind in the nation. It offers an interdisciplinary approach to innovating solutions for a clean energy future. By drawing on the resources of six School of Engineering departments, the Graduate School-New Brunswick, the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and the Rutgers School of Business, this collaborative program integrates technology and science with business, IT, public policy, and regulatory study.
Guided by an accomplished faculty of experts in their fields, students engage in cutting-edge R&D projects in state-of-the-art labs, including the Energy Lab and the Laboratory for Energy Smart Systems, as well as renowned Rutgers clean energy and environmental research and business incubation centers.
From climate change and clean vehicles to smart grids and renewable energy generation, our unique program facilitates the exploration of a dynamic and expanding field by combining diversified, cross-disciplinary coursework with invaluable hands-on learning opportunities. Through strong connections to the energy industry, we are able to place students in meaningful internships and help them obtain full-time positions after earning their degrees.
Degree Option
MEng: 30 Course Credits
6 ESE Core Courses (18), 3 Elective Courses (9) and 3 credit hours (1) in an industry internship or hands-on project, including a written report and oral presentation. The MEng is considered a terminal degree that does not automatically transition to a Ph.D.
