The Master of Information Technology will develop a breadth of knowledge and deepen your understanding across varying aspects of IT. Completing one of the eight majors will give you specialist knowledge in their respective field:
- Business Analysis - design and problem-solving skills will allow you to critically analyse complex work environments, assess alternate information system solutions, and evaluate outcomes.

Admissions
Curriculum
To meet the course requirements for the Master of Information Technology (Study Area A) you are required to complete 192 credit points of course units consisting of:
- 96 credit points of core units, which includes 48 credit points of IT foundation units, and 2 x 24 credit points of industry and research based project units.
- 60 credit points of discpline units from your selected Major.
- 36 credit points of IT related elective units selected from an approved list of units, which is drawn from units offered in each of the IT majors. The unit choices allow you to explore an area in more depth (e.g., Software Development, Data Science), or provide the opportunity for you to develop a breadth of understanding (e.g., Business Analysis, Computer Science).

Program Outcome
All market sectors are embracing new digital and technological advances to ensure they remain competitive (source: Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA)). The prevalence of digital technologies in industry is resulting in a growing demand for savvy IT professionals across a diverse range of sectors and roles.
Fields such as data science, business process management, process mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, virtual and augmented reality, business analytics, data visualisation, and the Internet of Things continue to evolve rapidly. Business investment in these areas continues to grow, as does the demand for expertise in these areas (source: Australia’s Digital Pulse, ACS/Deloitte).
In response to emerging industry trends, QUT has revised our postgraduate IT offerings. In our Master of Information Technology, we are offering three new majors, and have updated our existing majors to align with those emerging IT industry trends.
We offer one of the largest range of study specialisations within a postgraduate IT degree with eight majors, ranging from those connecting IT to business domains (for example, Business Analysis) to those highly technical in nature (for example, Software Development).

Professional recognition
This program is Australian Computer Society (ACS) accredited, giving eligibility for ACS membership, recognition by ACS for certification and migration skills assessment, and international recognition by signatories of the Seoul Accord.
Course articulation
QUT offers an pathway for international students who want to study a Master of Information Technology. The Graduate Certificate in Communication for Information Technology (IN17) is designed to help students acquire postgraduate level knowledge and skill in a specialist information technology discipline, while developing competency in English language and academic literacy. Upon successful completion of IN17, students are eligible for one semester of advanced standing towards the Master of Information Technology (see course description for details).
