Introduction
The M.S. degree in Mathematics is the appropriate program if:
- You are, or plan to be, employed in a position in business or industry that requires significant proficiency in mathematics or statistics, or
- You wish to earn HLC certification as a secondary school teacher, or
- You wish to enter a doctoral program in mathematics or statistics.

Credits in additional courses are approved by your advisory committee. The courses are to be selected from graduate–level courses in mathematics or statistics, but may include courses from computer science, engineering, physics or business appropriate for your emphasis.
Program Outcome
Upon completion of the M.S. in Mathematics degree:
- Students will master fundamental concepts across core areas in the mathematical sciences, with emphasis on at least one area including analysis, linear algebra, and applied statistics.
- Students will develop expertise in reading, analyzing, and constructing mathematical and statistical arguments.
- Students will learn to solve problems, use, and interpret appropriate models, and identify limitations of models.
- Students will learn to effectively communicate technical mathematics and statistics, orally and in writing, at a level appropriate to the intended audience.
- Students will have command of current software and technological resources useful in math and statistics, with a breadth of knowledge helpful in mastering future resources.
