Introduction

Providence College offers a program of graduate study leading to a degree of Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.)

The program of studies leading to the Master of Business Administration degree consists of practical courses that can be used on the job. Every course is planned so that it will be a meaningful learning experience that will benefit the individual in his career. Many of the courses have a quantitative emphasis on computer applications.

However, while the typical MBA program is frequently criticized for producing graduates who master technique but not substance, the Providence College program gives due consideration to the social purpose and responsibilities as well as the technical aspects of the business. In short, we strive to "humanize" the Master of Business Administration Program. This, we feel, is a critically important long-run consideration.

Objectives of the M.B.A. Program

The program is management-oriented. It provides knowledge useful to the junior level business executives and to others who seek an advanced degree before entering the business community.

The Graduate Program is designed to:

  1. Develop the decision-making ability of the student in analyzing and solving business problems.
  2. Provide students with practical courses that can be used to improve job performance.
  3. Offer courses during evening and Saturday mornings so that working students will have an opportunity to pursue the M.B.A. degree.

Requirements for the M.B.A. Degree

It is the student's responsibility to know the calendar, regulations, and procedures of the Graduate School, and to meet its standards and requirements. Students are required to have a "B" average in their advanced graduate courses in order to qualify for the MBA degree. After students have completed 12 semester hours of graduate work, their progress toward the degree will be evaluated. If a student has failed to maintain a "B" average, his/her candidacy may be terminated. There is no language requirement. However, a thesis can be elected, in which case two of the elective courses needed will be waived.
