Introduction
During the Master’s degree program in Communications Engineering (CE), you will learn how to design and operate any modern communication system, including satellite and radio links, fiber optic networks, computer networks, and wireless networks. You will also learn how to develop and use state-of-the-art tools, such as communication systems simulators and machine learning, as well as how to process signals, images, and videos.
The program fully adopts a novel project-based approach, on top of laboratory activities and practical classes in all courses.
All classes are taught in English.

Program Outcome
What will you learn?
The program lasts 2 years.
In Year 1 you will acquire a common background in advanced methodologies (such as machine learning, signal processing, information theory, and electromagnetic fields) to study, design, and control communications systems, from optical and wireless links to large and complex communication networks.
In Year 2 you will have an array of opportunities to tailor your study plan to your attitude and interests, with a course catalog that includes all current cutting-edge technologies in the communication field.
Some of the skills that you will gain are the following: Python and Matlab coding, programming for software-defined communications, network management and control, communications and network simulations, network measurements, optical and wireless transmissions, and finally deep learning, neural networks training, and inference.
Career Opportunities
Higher salaries, higher employment rate: according to official Almalaurea statistics, 89% of our graduates find a job within one year of graduation, and 100% in 5 years from graduation. The average net monthly pay reaches 2,042 Euros in five years, which is 10% higher than the salary paid to graduates from other Politecnico programs.
You will be able to work in various career fields in both public and private companies:
- Design, development, management, and operation of telecommunication systems and networks
- Design and development of telematic and ICT services
- Research
- Consultancy
Postgraduation opportunities: PhD programs or Specializing in Master’s programs.

Program delivery
How will you learn it?
Two full semesters are devoted to projects: in one semester you will study software-defined communications and in the other semester you will learn about applied communication systems and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Many courses include laboratory activities in advanced research labs with a strong learning-by-doing approach. Advanced simulators and digital twins of communications equipment allow easy access to practical training. More than 300 hours are devoted to practical training on technologies in the fields of wireless and optical communication, networking, and signal processing. You will work on your thesis project for 300 hours; thismeans that you will be engaged in practical work for about half of the total number of hours.
The program is closely connected with the business world: you will have plenty of opportunities to work on your thesis project or do an internship inacompany, on top of excellent placements and seminars.
