In the second semester, "Design and Conservation", you will attend interdisciplinary courses covering conservation and restoration of the built heritage, plus topics connected with parametric digital modelling, history of techniques, architectural technologies and structural consolidation.
The third semester, "Design and Innovation", will be focused on the adaptive reuse of the architectural heritage, on the fruition, management and enhancement design of cultural sites, with an in-depth study of modern and contemporary architecture.
The fourth semester, “In-depth study”, will develop your final educational experiences, allowing you to decide which disciplines you want to explore more in-depth. The programme ends with the preparation of a thesis project.
You will be able to tailor your study plan to your needs and interests by taking some optional cross-disciplinary courses from other Master’s degree programmes.
Career Opportunities
You will have plenty of career opportunities. After graduation, you will be able to work as a freelance architect, individually or within teams of professionals, with a particular inclination towards restoration and recovery of the built heritage. For this, you will need to pass the State Examination for Professional Practice and register with the Association of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservationists (section A).
You will able to work as an employee in design studios or companies producing goods and services. You will hold high-level positions in technical, cultural, and management offices of Local and Ministerial Authorities operating in the areas of protection, restoration, reuse, and enhancement of cultural heritage.
You will also be able to continue your academic studies with a 2nd-level Specializing Master’s program, with a Ph.D. program, or with a Post-graduate School, based on your interests and attitude.
Finally, you will have the opportunity to work as a middle or high-school teacher, since this degree qualifies you for recruitment in schools in compliance with current legislation.

How Will You Learn It?
The Master’s degree program is taught both in Italian (with the possibility to choose some English-taught courses) and also entirely in English.
You will attend courses, workshops, and studios where you will work on real case studies to gain the skills required of an architect (design, project planning, construction management), with particular reference to restoration and interventions on architectural and landscape heritage.
You will have the opportunity to tailor your educational path to your interests by joining seminars and conferences. You will also be able to choose optional courses, elective courses, and workshops and you will take part in other academic activities, such as the Challenges that have a new teaching approach. The goal will be to pursue a cross-pollination between research, innovative ideas, and the corporate world.
Politecnico promotes international mobility allowing you to study abroad at a foreign university in the framework of Erasmus+ agreements for simple exchange programmes and double degrees.
You will be also able to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the program with curricular and/or post-graduate internships in Italy or abroad: this experience will guide you toward future career opportunities.
