Curriculum
The 33-credit program spans topics ranging from practical business applications used to manage current financial challenges to advanced financial theories that can address future trends. You'll focus on:
- Financial modeling, including capital budgeting, basic statistics, and forecasting.
- Financial accounting, its principles, and related decision-making.
- Advanced topics involving strategic financial decisions, including capital structure and cost of capital, valuation, and corporate control.
- Multinational financial management for companies subject to foreign exchange risk exposure and different tax regulations in foreign countries.
- Financial derivative securities covering options, forwards, futures, and OTC derivatives.

The Penn State Great Valley finance program consists of 33 credits—18 core credits, 12 elective credits, and 3 capstone credits.
- The program covers a variety of topics, ranging from practical business applications used to manage current financial challenges to advanced financial theories that can address future trends.
- Curriculum covers 85% of the content in the CFA level 1 exam, as well as much of the content on the level 2 and 3 exams.
- Real-world practitioners teach courses, so students learn practical applications as well as helpful interview skills.
- Immersive capstone experience at end of the program.
Program Outcome
Upon completion of the Master of Finance program:
- The students will demonstrate enhanced analytical and critical thinking skills. They will be able to:
- Apply quantitative and analytical knowledge to financial analysis.
- Identify financial risk exposure and manage financial risks with appropriate financial derivative instruments.
- The students will understand the impact of global influences on financial decision-making. They will be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of global financial and foreign exchange markets, and their impact on multinational enterprises.
- The students will be responsible financial decision-makers. They will be able to:
- Recognize and resolve ethical issues in financial decision-making.
- The students will be effective communicators in finance. They will be able to:
- Make an effective presentation of analytical results.
- Prepare a written report using financial statement information to evaluate corporate performance.
