The MSPP will provide you with the skills you need to assess, create, and implement public policy that has a lasting impact on the public good. This accelerated, one-year program will prepare you for a career in policy analysis in a range of fields and sectors, from local housing policy to national health policy to international development—from New York City to cities around the globe.

Effective policy analysts need to possess skills in analysis, advanced quantitative methods, public management, and strategic communications. As a designated STEM-eligible program, the MSPP blends these areas so that you'll know how to gather, evaluate, interpret, and communicate data to design effective public policies.

Graduates will be prepared to hit the ground running as policy analysts at think tanks, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, foundations, and consulting firms.

We base our decision on a holistic review of all application components—your past academic history, work experience, written and video essays, test scores, and letters of reference. Because context matters, we consider how your background, experiences, aspirations, values, and accomplishments enable you to bring a unique perspective to the classroom and add to the diversity of the NYU Wagner community.

The MS in Public Policy (MSPP) is a full-time, intensive STEM-designated program open to applicants from a range of academic backgrounds. Due to the quantitative nature of this program, applicants should enter this program with some foundational proficiency in introductory statistics, economics, or first-year calculus. Submitting optional GRE/GMAT scores is strongly recommended if you do not have evidence of quantitative skills demonstrated on your transcripts.

Ability to Think Critically about Policy Issues

An ideal candidate for admission has the ability to bring logical, pragmatic thinking to bear in solving problems, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.

Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on the day of the deadline. Any mailed application material must be postmarked by the deadline date.

Applicants seeking merit-based aid are encouraged to complete the application early in the cycle as awarding becomes more competitive throughout the year.

You may complete and submit your online application at any time before the deadline. Save your work before moving to the next page and print a copy for your own records.

GRE or GMAT scores are optional to apply. We encourage applicants to submit scores if they believe it will strengthen their applications or if their academic and professional records do not provide sufficient evidence of their quantitative, verbal, and reasoning abilities.

Scores are valid for five years from the date that you took the test and must be valid at the time that you submit your application. You are responsible for including your test score on the online application and ensuring that Pearson VUE or ETS is able to release and send your official score report to NYU Wagner.

NYU Wagner has no minimum GRE or GMAT score requirement. For applicants who took the test more than once, the Admissions Committee considers only the test with the highest total score.

Please upload a copy of your score report into the online application before submission. We cannot accept test scores once your online application is submitted.

English Language Proficiency (if applicable)

Mastery of English is required for NYU Wagner programs. If your undergraduate or graduate degree was not taught in English, you must demonstrate your level of proficiency in English in one of the following ways:

A TOEFL score of at least 100 (We accept MyBest scores and our TOEFL School Code is 2507)

Scores must be less than two years old upon application submission. While official scores are required, an unofficial copy of your score report can be used to review your application and must be uploaded at the time of submission. If you submit a test score that does 

meet the minimum requirements to apply, you will be contacted by the admissions committee and given the opportunity to retake the exam.

For applicants who took the test more than once, the Admissions Committee considers only the test with the highest total score taken within two years of the application deadline for which you apply.

For Executive Masters students, fees also include a one-time $1,724 EMPA program fee. The program fee will be split across two semesters:

A typical part-time student enrolls in 6 credits per fall and spring semester each academic year. A typical full-time student enrolls in 12 credits per fall and spring semester each academic year.
