The curriculum in Electronic and Communication Systems (ECS) is part of the Master’s Degree Course in Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles (EEIV). This curriculum replaces, while maintaining the same teaching activities and topics, the previously offered Master’s Degree Course in Advanced Automotive Electronic Engineering (AAEE) that has been proposed by MUNER until the 21/22 academic year. The aim of the ECS curriculum is to educate electronic engineers with a solid knowledge of the methods and tools that make electronics the foundation of all the systems that collect, process, transmit, and store information, with a particular emphasis on the electronic subsystems that are embedded in nowadays and future vehicles.
The ECS curriculum lasts two academic years. During the first year of teaching in the Bologna campus, courses will be offered in order to strengthen the student's background knowledge on topics such as “embedded” and “real-time” electronic systems, automotive sensors, automatic control, vehicular communications, wired and wireless interconnections, and power electronics. The second year taught in the Modena campus complements and specializes the first, providing specific examples of real electronic and communication sub-system projects installed on existing vehicles, exposing students to embedded system programming and issues related to safe and secure connection amongst different subsystems.
The number of positions is limited to a maximum of 25 students. Admissions are based on merit and interviews evaluating motivations and skills. All teachings are delivered entirely in the English language.
The international teaching staff of MUNER includes highly experienced lecturers and professionals. The contents of the courses have been defined together with the contribution of the partner companies to ensure that training is in line with current requirements of the labour market. The program requires student participation in numerous laboratory activities either on campus or on the premises of industrial partners, in line with a “learning by doing” approach. It also includes internships in private companies and lab-based thesis preparation activities carried out following a “project work” approach.
The first academic year is held in Bologna Campus while the second academic year is held in Modena Campus.

Program Tuition Fee
The educational path has been designed in strong cooperation with Companies operating in the automotive sector to allow a seamless insertion of graduated in high-profile roles in the research, development, and manufacturing environments focused on vehicles and their technologies.
At the end of the second academic year, the program also includes internships in private companies and lab-based thesis preparation activities carried out following a “project work” approach. Moreover, students also attend seminars with industrial and international speakers and factory visits throughout the year.
The ability to communicate with the other Information Technology disciplines makes the Graduate in “Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles” an ideal candidate to play the role of project manager in the conception, design, realization, and maintenance of complex systems in which the overall functionality depends on the interaction of multiple heterogeneous systems with a strong electronic component.
Graduates of the ECS curriculum will learn and understand the operating principle and design constraints of the fundamental electronic and communication devices and subsystems as well as how they can be controlled and securely connected with each other and the surrounding environment in automotive and motorbike applications.
