Moravian University

About

Moravian University, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is the place for students who are expecting remarkably dedicated faculty, the latest Apply technology, the warmest of spirits, and the power to truly transform your life.

Moravian University has deep roots and a record of success longer than that of our nation. The iconic Moravian star is engraved in our history and is present everywhere you turn. Moravian’s feel is entwined with that of Bethlehem’s, carrying both the resilience of its steel town lore and the lightness of the window candles that glow each night in Moravian tradition.

Bethlehem is so regarded for its history that it’s been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site shortlist, hoping to join such historic sites as Independence Hall, the Statue of Liberty, and the pyramids of Egypt.

I have always questioned why things work the way they do and been determined to find the answer, so I decided to study biology. I also love that no matter how many people do not want to believe it, the study of biology is built off of facts. My best experiences at Moravian University have been serving on the sustainability committee and as president of the student-run Environmental Coalition (ECO) in 2021. Through the ECO club, I have met some of my closest friends, and I discovered my passion for sustainability advocacy.

I grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I’m not sure if that has really influenced me in any notable way on its own. Even though I was raised in an American city, I spent the majority of my time growing up surrounded by family members who were all raised in different countries. Because of that, I think I’ve come to be a bit more influenced by my international roots than I am by my Bethlehem roots. I’m currently a member of the philosophy club and was just elected as its president for the 2022–2023 academic year. (If that’s not reason enough for more people to join, I don’t know what is!) I’m also a recipient of and participant in the Humanities Fellowship Program, a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, and a student worker in Reeves Library, where I work both in Tech Services and as the (unofficial) assistant to the archivist.

Growing up in Sevilla, Spain, I watched my grandmother suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, it was a rough time for my family, and it made me want to understand more about the brain, so I decided to study neuroscience. In Spain one can't study neuroscience at the undergraduate level, so I decided to pursue a bachelor’s in the United States. Some family friends were living in Reading, Pennsylvania, and I began my first year at a community college as I found my way around the change in academics. Luckily, that year gave me time to get comfortable with the language and look for universities that offered neuroscience. That is how I came to Moravian.
