Introduction
As a professional economist or an economic analyst, you could be working on some of society’s biggest questions. Questions like how do we strengthen local economies, what do we need to do to alleviate poverty in the UK and developing countries, how do we decide which cancer treatments to fund, how can we understand the potential of new technologies?
This master's is designed to equip you with the skills to influence and advise on the important decisions we face. It will prepare you for a career as an economic analyst in civil service, finance, and health sectors, as well as position you to move into further research programmes (such as a PhD in Economics).

By thinking rigorously about costs and benefits, incentives and human behaviour, you’ll consider the likely consequences of the choices made by individuals, businesses and policymakers.
Throughout the course, you’ll develop the technical skills to inform economic decisions and predict possible outcomes. You’ll be taught how to make informed evidence-based decisions to assess economic situations and the impact of key public policy questions in real-world circumstances.
Practical application is at the heart of this course, supported by appropriate theoretical and statistical considerations. This master's is designed to directly prepare you to work in a professional economist role or undertake further research - with core modules on policy design and analysis, questions of sustainability and quantitative modelling of progress.
Rise with Manchester Met
Rise is a programme available to all students at Manchester Met giving you the opportunity to earn practice credits on your degree through employment-enhancing activities. During your studies, you can collect points for the activities you engage in, and if you engage in enough activity you could receive recognition on your degree transcript.
Year 1
You’ll study several core modules, covering topics such as macroeconomic policy, applied economic analysis and policy evaluation. From there you’ll complete your dissertation or final project.
In addition to your core modules, you’ll also study advanced finance and the political economy of climate crisis as option modules.
