Introduction
- 1-year full-time programme.
- Gives an in-depth coverage of the major areas in risk management and insurance, with an emphasis on professional practice.
- Helps students obtain professional qualifications such as Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) qualifications.
- Covers risk management principles, general insurance, life and health insurance, financial risk management, risk modelling and analysis, insurance law and regulation, wealth management, and financial services markets.
- The inclusion of finance electives increases the appeal of the degree to both students and potential employers.
Admissions
Curriculum
Students are required to complete 10 modules in one year of study. Each module bears three credits.
Core Courses (Five courses):
- Principles of Risk Management
- Insurance Economics
- Insurance Practice in Hong Kong and China
- Risk Analysis and Modelling
- Accounting and Financial Management in Financial Institutions and Insurance Companies
Elective Courses* (Any five):
- Reinsurance, Risk Transfer and Risk Securitization
- Life and Health Insurance
- Financial Planning and Services in Hong Kong and China
- Property and Casualty Insurance
- Insurance Law in Hong Kong and China
- Financial Risk Management

Pre-entry Course
Applicants with no or limited background in insurance and statistics in their bachelor's degree will be required to pass the pre-entry course(s) “Fundamental of Insurance” and/or “Statistics Workshop” prior to the start of this programme.
Graduation Requirements
- Complete 10 courses (5 core courses and 5 elective courses) and obtain a minimum of 30 credits
- Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.67
Program Outcome
The Master of Science in Risk and Insurance Management is designed to help students become insurance professionals through leading-edge teaching and curriculum design.
The degree offers courses in risk and insurance management for those who are currently holding or anticipating positions in the related industry. These courses will be beneficial for those who wish to pursue professional qualifications such as the Advanced Diploma and Chartered Status in Insurance of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII); Senior Associate or Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF (Snr Assoc)/ANZIIF (Fellow)); Certified Financial Planner (CFP); Diploma of the IIHK; Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU); LOMA; and others. For those interested in studying to become a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), the degree provides preparation for the FRM examinations at Levels I and II.
