Loyola’s College of Music and Media serves as the preeminent center of performing and visual arts study among all Jesuit colleges and universities throughout the United States and recognizes the historical role of music and the arts in the Roman Catholic Church. Our College prepares students for professions in the arts, or other fields, in a manner that reflects the Jesuit ideals of truth, service, and justice, and provides the campus, region, and nation with activities demonstrating the University’s commitment to the arts.
Introduction
Loyola’s College of Music and Media serves as the preeminent center of performing and visual arts study among all Jesuit colleges and universities throughout the United States and recognizes the historical role of music and the arts in the Roman Catholic Church.
Our College prepares students for professions in the arts, or other fields, in a manner that reflects the Jesuit ideals of truth, service, and justice, and provides the campus, region, and nation with activities demonstrating the University’s commitment to the arts.
The School of Music offers a wide range of programs, including baccalaureate and master’s programs in music performance (vocal, instrumental, and keyboard), programs in music education, and third oldest program in music therapy in the United States.
Loyola’s programs in the Film and Music Industries Studies department (featuring a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Music option) are outstanding, as is our opera program - arguably the best in the entire Gulf Coast region.
In the Department of Art, the College offers the BA and BFA degrees in Studio Practice.
The Theatre Arts and Dance department offers the BA in Theatre Arts, the BA in Theatre Arts and Musical Theatre, and the BA in Theatre Arts with a minor in Business Administration.
The Design Department offers a Bachelor Design and a Bachelor of Interactive Design.
The College enjoys special relationships with several important cultural organizations, particularly the Louisiana Symphony Orchestra and the New Orleans Opera, many of whose artists also teach for us.
