Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through several modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

What you'll learn
Economics for Banking & Investment
Combine your study of topics in both macroeconomics and microeconomics. You'll explore a selection of topics in economic theory relevant to understanding the environment in which banking, investment, and financial decisions are made. You'll understand the impact of those decisions on practical banking, investment, and financial outcomes.
Corporate Finance
Evaluate the fundamental concepts and theories of modern finance, identifying how these can be effectively applied in both national and multinational organisations.
Investment Securities & Capital Budgeting Analysis
Explore the investment world, divided into owners (those who invest in equities or stocks) and lenders (those who invest in debt or bonds). Study the three basic types of investment securities: money, debt (bonds), and equities (stocks). You'll also study the scope of passive and active investments.
International Banking Regulations & Policies
Develop your understanding of the banking sector by studying key concepts, principles, and practices in modern banking regulations and the resolution of modern banking crises. Topics include banking supervision and regulations, prudential supervision of banks, and international regulations.
Applied Econometrics: Time Series
Improve your understanding of econometric principles and methods. You'll have the opportunity to apply techniques in the statistical testing of economic theories and models, as well as the forecasting of economic and financial variables.
Money & the Banking Industry Framework
Explore key concepts, principles, and practices in the modern banking industry. You'll develop your ability to analyse money, the banking industry, and central banking. This module will concentrate on policy implementation by the Central Bank and resultant economic impacts both nationally and internationally.

What you'll learn
Dissertation (60 credits) OR Work-Based Organisational Consultancy Project
Choose to carry out an in-depth research project to produce a dissertation or undertake a work-based organisational consultancy project. If you choose the consultancy project, you'll explore a key issue for a client organisation - a small business, public sector organisation, social enterprise, etc. You'll focus on a key issue that the client organisation requires intelligence and information to help them tackle and address. In working with the client organisation, you'll develop and negotiate a suitable project involving the collection and analysis of a range of data and information.
Program Outcome
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Manage existing and new banking, financial, and investment instruments and tools to solve practical tasks and problems in the banking, financial, and investment fields.
- Effectively select and use banking and investment instruments, tools, and practices to identify or create investment and venture capital investment opportunities presented by the national and international banking, financial, and investment markets.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of relevant concepts and theories, critically analyzing them and their relationships to developments, events, and issues in the financial markets, and devise appropriate policy solutions accordingly.
- Demonstrate originality in applying knowledge, understanding, and appropriate techniques in selecting up-to-date relevant literature, and evaluate the literature critically to develop and synthesize complex materials and arguments.
- Identify, critically analyze, evaluate, and manage current pertinent issues, including risks, the environment, ethics, and crises about banking, investment, and financial activity nationally and internationally.
- Exhibit sound knowledge, understanding, and appraisal of state-of-the-art and appropriate research methodologies and techniques to plan, structure, and work independently to produce a dissertation or commercial project that involves collecting, organizing, and manipulating primary and secondary data, and analyzing and interpreting the results.
