The King’s Education Management MA is intended for education professionals who aspire to positions of management and leadership in education, and for scholars with an interest in this field. Course essentials
This course draws on various disciplines, such as sociology, political science, economics, history and contemporary policy-making to provide a critical perspective on contemporary education management. The course places education management and leadership in schools, colleges and universities within the current political, social and educational context. The course includes practical elements through which to explore and deepen understanding of the ideas explored in class. You will benefit from this course no matter the level at which you teach, lecture or organise educational provision. It will enable you to reflect on your practice and to inform such reflections by extending your knowledge.

Required modules
Courses are divided into modules. You will take modules totalling 180 credits.
If you are a part-time student, you will normally complete two taught modules in the first year (one in the autumn and one in the spring) and the remaining modules and the dissertation in the second year.
You are required to take the following modules:
- Recent Developments in Education Management (30 credits)
- Research Methods and Dissertation (60 credits)
Optional modules
In addition, you will take 90 credits from a range of optional modules that may typically include:
- International & Comparative Education (30 credits)
- Education & International Development (30 credits)
- Education Leadership and Change in Context (30 credits)
- The Political Economy of Education in a Globalised World (30 credits)
- Gender, Power, and Inequality in Educational Leadership (30 credits)

- The Social Context of Education (30 credits)
- Language & Power (30 credits)
- Recent Developments in Digital Technologies in Education (30 credits)
- School Effectiveness & Improvement (30 credits)
- Social Justice & Education Policy (30 credits)

- Quantitative methods in the context of STEM education research (30 credits)
Please note: students who are transferring in Master’s level credits (e.g. from the PGCE) will only need to take the number of credits required to bring their total for the course to 180, including transferred credits.
