Introduction

The Department of Religious Culture Studies at Jungwon University offers the only courses that are differentiated from similar Departments at other schools in that it creates a story by blending cultural properties with religion, and cultivates the creative cultural industry planning human resources. The 21st century is the so-called era of culture based on the rapid development of digital technology. Cultural industries are recognized as future high value-added industries, and the Korean cultural contents market is in its beginning stages. We are living in a modern society marking the age of globalization and convergence, which more favors a talented individual who can make a new story, plan cultural contents, and do creative work on the basis of emotion and creativity.

To meet the demands of such modern society, the newly opened Department of Religious Culture Studies in 2014 is committed to upgrading the resources of religion and cultural properties, which have been the core of culture for long periods of time in Korea, into the area of the contents planning. For this purpose, the Department offers students opportunities to experience various world religious cultures. let alone the Korean religious culture. It also supports students so that they can strengthen their language skills and leadership by providing opportunities to have an overseas training session. Also, the Department has been running an incomparable scholarship scheme such as full tuition support for applicants upon admission, to ensure that all students can benefit from the scholarship program and to enable them to concentrate only on their studies. This will allow students to be equipped with capabilities of growing into planners of cultural properties and religious culture through double major in various courses. On top of that, to help students develop their creativity, the Department operates the Contents of Religious Culture Research Institute and 3D Cultural Research Institute, holds religious culture festivals and arranges joint academic seminars, investigation & conservation of cultural heritage, preservation of the original state of cultural heritage in digital form, building a cyber museum, and many other aspects in connection with museums.
