Introduction

This program provides a specialized education in management for those holding a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Engineering Management is a one-year master's program (equivalent to 75 credits), providing a tailor-made education in management for students with a degree in engineering. It is based on the current demand for employees who understand specific engineering professions and combine this with broad managerial knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Graduates from this program are attractive on the job market thanks to their knowledge and understanding of engineering as well as management. You will qualify for a variety of positions and be especially equipped to take on project leadership and managerial positions in engineering-focused companies, which require abilities to integrate engineering practice with other business functions and communicate across the organization.

The program offers a highly interactive learning experience. As a student you will work together with a diverse group of peers, joining the program from various countries and having different engineering backgrounds. We have designed the program to leverage your previous engineering expertise. Through practical projects and direct interaction with selected companies, you will develop in-depth understanding and lasting learning experiences. The combination of interaction with business, theoretical insight, and skills development ensures that this program has practical relevance as well as academic depth.

Before joining fellow students and faculty on campus, you will take a pre-study course online that serves as an introduction to Business and Economics. The teaching on-site at Jönköping International Business School holds four modular courses (Foundations of Engineering Management; Leading with People; Boosting Innovation; Investigating and Reporting), each offering a set of interrelated subjects to capture the module’s theme. Specific focus is placed on fostering the participants’ ability to manage change and develop an entrepreneurial mindset. This mirrors JIBS’ extensive expertise and globally recognized research on entrepreneurship and renewal, as well as the demand on the job market. The program closes with a master’s thesis and a summer internship.

All courses are taught in English. Jönköping International Business School offers a truly international study environment, with faculty and students from around the world. The international learning experience is built from our interactive teaching approach as well as course content.

Half-time option for practitioners

Although no prior work experience is required to enter the program it is encouraged. For applicants already working in industrial and engineering sectors the programme can under certain circumstances be studied at half speed over two years as an alternative to one year of full-time studies. In such case, an individual study plan must be applied for upon acceptance to the program. Please note that the program still runs on campus during the daytime so even at half speed you would need to be present regularly and have a job that can offer enough flexibility during this period.
