The main objective of the Master in International Development and Cooperation is to provide Master's students with additional skills to those acquired in the first cycle, enabling them to be highly employable as managers, senior managers and technicians of public and private companies, organizations linked to international cooperation. The aim is to deepen the economic, political and sociological theories of development and social change, as well as international development cooperation; to know the research methodologies in this area, as well as the complexity of the empirical reality of developing countries; and that master's students have the skills to prepare technical dossiers to inform political decision-making in the area of economic and social development policy, as well as international cooperation.

Access Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Applications are considered from holders of a higher academic degree, national or foreign, equivalent to the 1st cycle in the areas of economics, management, sociology, international relations and social sciences in general. In accordance with paragraph d) of article 17 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006 of 24th March, amended by Decree-law no. 107/2008 of 25th June, other applications deemed appropriate by the scientific and pedagogical committee are also evaluated. Candidates are evaluated based on the final classification of the 1st cycle, curriculum analysis and a possible interview.

Admissions Option 2

The master's degree is organized into four semesters, totaling 120 credits. The first three semesters are fully filled with the curricular component, in a total of 78 credits, aiming to endow the student with instrumental, interpersonal and systemic skills related to training in economics and development policy and international cooperation. The fourth and last semester is dedicated to the elaboration of the final master's work (TFM) - dissertation, project work or internship - in a total of 42 credits (of which 12 credits are obtained in the 3rd semester).

The master's degree in Development and International Cooperation is essentially intended to complete the training of first-cycle graduates in economics, management, sociology, international relations, or other areas considered appropriate for attending the course, preparing students to exercise professional functions related to problems of development and international cooperation, or teaching and scientific research functions.
