Introduction

The master aims to supply technical and normative information needed to learn the process of project a boat with extreme freedom and project confidence. The study of hull waterline, of structures and piping plants and onboard systems will permit to plan since from the beginning their appropriate positioning, giving the chance to acquire a fundamental professionalism to express oneself freely in design and style.

The master is intended for graduates and graduating in Architecture, Engineering, Design and holders of a diploma in Design Schools. Moreover, it is appropriate a good knowledge of CAD programs. Teaching staff is composed by Architects, Designers and high-profile Naval Architects and Marine Engineers who actually work and cooperate with the most important National and International shipyards. We purposely selected young and dynamic people who could bring not theoretical but concrete experiences from the shipyards' work.

Lessons on theory will be combined with workshops that will lead from concept to the expanding of the project in every detail, until the development of constructive full-scale drawings.

The master consists of theoretical lessons of methodology and keels' and 3D superstructures' modeling, and in technical lessons in laboratory where students will immediately start the yachts design. Teachers will verify the state of every individual project Moreover, companies and production shipyards will be present to give their account and experience as integration

Program of the course

The course is structured with a total duration of 13 months, the didactical activity is united to guided tours to firms and sites and with a stage, all organized by ISAD.

Trainer: an intensive course of modeling NURBS with Rhinoceros and rendering.

Naval architecture and regulations: in this phase students face technical functional issues and regulations that will be the foundations of the future work: water line, structures and requests from naval register design construction. Regulations and ergonomic design in restrained spaces: system plants and equipment, constructive techniques and rapid prototyping.

Planning and Design: materials and outdoor/indoor constructive techniques, interiors supporting structures and their hull connections and assembly. Systems of removable panels for systems, interior Design, and exterior design. Moreover, all boat's kinds and design typologies will be dealt with.

Stage: at the end of the course an internship of 3/6 months will be provided to each student in institutes and shipyards that have been working or producing in the field for many years, to complete the master through the application of lessons directly in the shipyard.

First Level Master in Yacht Design – A.A. 2017/2018

Provision of N.2 scholarships of tuition fee for Italian and foreigner graduated students:

  • Italian and EU students: N.1 scholarship of partial coverage equal to 50% for total amount of €5.825,00 of tuition fee of €11.650,00 (E.A.B.H.E.S. accreditation and tax exam excluded)
  • NON-EU students: N.1 scholarship of partial coverage equal to 50% for total amount of €6.225,00 of tuition fee of €12.450,00 (E.A.B.H.E.S. accreditation and tax exam excluded)

The master will take place from November 6th, 2017 until July 27th, 2018, compulsory attendance from Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at ISAD – Istituto Superiore di Architettura e Design. The educational program includes a fulltime internship in the most prestigious studies and shipyards. The master will be held by teachers-professionals of the field as detailed in the program published on the website www.isad.it.

Requirements for participation in the selection

Participation in the competition is open to candidates who are not in possession of other scholarships and meet the following requirements:

  • graduates in Architecture, Design and Building Engineering (3 years)
  • graduates in Architecture, Design and Building Engineering (5 years)
  • holders of a bachelor diploma in Design Schools
  • professionals with proven professional experience (at least 3 years)

Documents to be sent

  • participation form completely filled in
  • letter of purpose
  • curriculum vitae with a brief personal profile
  • portfolio in A4 format with a max of 10 pages that illustrate project works during university path
  • graduation/diploma degree with transfer of credits and final thesis general point average (GPA)
  • declaration stating that student is not holding any other scholarship

Deadlines

Selection for the participation to the scholarships will be done based on the evaluation of the curricula, the portfolio and the graduation/diploma degree with transfer of credits and final thesis general point average (GPA). These documents have to be sent to [email protected], not later than Friday, September 15th, 2017.

Evaluation and selection of winners

Results will be communicated within September 26th, 2017.

Candidates are having 48 hours to accept the scholarship sending a mail to [email protected]. From the acceptance, the winner is having 5 days time to apply for the course, and send a copy of the payment for the tax inscription of €3.150,00 VAT included.

If the winner is not going to accept the scholarship, or if the winner is not sending the application before the scheduled time, the scholarship will be considered refused and the Commission could assign it to another candidate.
