Introduction
Mining and petroleum resources, underground water and renewable energy resources, soil and water contamination, coastal erosion: the exploitation of natural resources leads to both significant economic benefits and environmental impacts.
By developing your expertise in earth sciences, you will participate in the advancement of knowledge on these resources as well as in the development of concrete environmental solutions. Within an experienced team, you could evaluate the performance of geothermal systems in cold climates in order to facilitate the emergence of green energies in northern environments. You could also optimize the exploitation of underground mines by developing decision support tools based on microseismic monitoring.
There are many innovative and stimulating master's projects at INRS. Depending on the nature of your study project, you could benefit from co-supervision of research with scientists from the Quebec division of the Geological Survey of Canada.
Offered jointly with the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at Laval University, thus giving access to a wider range of courses, the master's degree in Earth Sciences with thesis offers intensive field training on geofluids called Methods of characterization of the subsurface having no equivalent in other Quebec universities.
