Introduction

Training of experts for the conception, production, development and management of complex multimedia applications in the media informatics Master.

training objective

A number of information technology innovations have fundamentally changed communication in modern societies in recent years:

  • Professional production technology was able to spread widely due to the extremely low prices. High-quality single lens reflex and system cameras with 4K resolution, special systems such as 360 degree cameras, powerful drones and computer graphics and post-production systems now enable professional video production on a comparatively low budget, as was only possible a few years ago in cinema and television productions.
  • New generations of end devices such as smartphones with the highest audiovisual playback quality as well as VR and AR glasses have resulted in immersive media such as 360 degree and stereo videos from being a niche existence to standard media, especially among younger social classes.
  • The attractive interaction possibilities with new end devices have not only promoted the spread of computer games. The entire network-based multimedia communication is developing massively through the inclusion of complex playful elements in directions such as edutainment and infotainment.
  • The television broadcasters' monopoly on the distribution of audiovisual information has been broken. Today, it is mainly distributed via the Internet and mobile radio channels. Every company, every institution and many private individuals distribute specially produced audiovisual interactive media with more or less great effort.

These developments have a massive impact on current forms of communication in all areas of society such as entertainment, marketing and the transfer of knowledge and information. All companies and institutions have to face these challenges with extensive redesign and redesign of their offers and services. This leads to extensive areas of application by appropriately trained academics.

In the Applied Media Informatics (Master of Science) course, experts are trained in the design, production, development and management of relevant media and applications.
