Taught using principles applicable to quantity surveying across many industrial sectors, the programme provides graduates with a strong and in-depth knowledge of the subject area.
Professional recognition
The programme is accredited by both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
On successful completion of the MSc in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying, graduates may apply for RICS membership. Following the successful completion of the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) graduate members will achieve full chartered status.

Course content
Students take four courses in Semester 1 and a further four courses in Semester 2.

- Value and Risk Management
- Construction Technology
- Construction Financial Management
- Quantity Surveying Financial Management
- Construction Practices and Information Technology
- People and Organisation Management in the Built Environment
- Sustainability in Civil Engineering (optional)
- Real Estate Appraisal and Valuation (optional)
- Macroeconomics Finance and the Built Environment (optional)
In addition to these taught courses, students pursuing the Master's qualification undertake a research project. Students can study individual courses to meet the continuing professional learning requirements of the built environment professions.
