Introduction

The Master in Contemporary Cultural Studies at Fumec University - MCult is accredited by CAPES in the large Multidisciplinary area and in the specific area called Interdisciplinary and is assessed with a grade of 3 (three) in the CAPES concept. It started its activities in August 2014, constituting itself as an important interdisciplinary academic proposal, bringing together teachers with training in different fields of knowledge that converge to the analysis of contemporary cultural processes.

MCult's proposal is innovative, since there is a little offer of graduate programs in the field of cultural studies in the Brazilian scenario, especially if we consider the relevance of culture in the formation of national identity and social interactions.

The MCult faculty has doctors with considerable experience in teaching and researching the arts, design, media and communication, education, psychology, sociology, anthropology, literature, creativity, entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation, among others. The diverse training of the MCult faculty enables the dialogue between different pieces of knowledge in the process of theoretical and methodological construction of the students' dissertation proposals.

MCult seeks to meet the demand in the state of Minas Gerais for academic training in the cultural area, with regard to training for teaching in higher education and for researchers, agents and managers with interdisciplinary training in a central area that is that of culture. The Program is structured to serve candidates from Belo Horizonte and those who come from other cities in the state.

For this, it is possible to take mandatory and optional courses and receive guidance on Fridays and Saturdays, thus contributing to the training of masters at the regional level. The return of these masters to their cities of origin constitutes an interesting regional repercussion of MCult's proposal to contribute to supply the demand for specialization in the cultural area, focused on the Brazilian reality, whose cultural diversity has placed society in the face of challenges related to the promotion of intercultural dialogue, recognition, and respect for minority rights.
