Introduction
The Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) is a 56-hour program designed for church and marketplace leaders called to serve in educational ministry to help them develop academic knowledge and equip them for educational practice. This is accomplished by integrating the history of education with educational psychology, life-span development, current learning theories, curriculum design, and methodologies within the framework of a biblical worldview. The program is designed to assist leaders who desire to serve or currently serve in an educational capacity. In order to complete the program, students must complete the required curriculum. For an additional 16 quarter hours of study (72 hours), students may emphasize Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Education, or Adult Education and Care. A student must have a minimum of 20 hours in a specific area to qualify for an emphasis. The program is for the following:
Educators and workers in positions where the master’s degree will allow entrance into a Christian vocation which would not otherwise be possible;
Those who wish to gain expertise in the field of education and enhance their pedagogical and professional knowledge and skills; and
Those who wish to develop appropriate learning experiences and assessment instruments to advance student learning in an interdisciplinary program or specifically teach and mentor children, adolescents, or adults.
