Introduction
The global aviation industry is highly complex and is subject to constant change and challenge in sustaining competitiveness while offering a safe and efficient passenger experience. Now, more than ever, aviation needs effective and highly capable management and leadership.
Buckinghamshire New University was the first UK institution to deliver Aviation Management programmes and in 2020 we celebrate two decades of sector-leading programmes. We have extensive knowledge and capability in the areas that matter in the sector now and in the future, including globalisation, market growth and organisational resilience.
Aviation continues to develop and grow in response to economic, environmental and market needs. In the face of technological advances, challenge and disruption alongside that growth, there is strong demand for capable managers who possess high-level knowledge and analytical thinking skills who are equipped and able to take businesses and their employees forward. This programme is for those who wish to make that difference.
This course is suited to those who are either interested in moving into the airline industry, for example, you may be a recent graduate with a degree from a related programme or may have general management experience. Additionally, you may already be in the aviation sector, working for an airline or are an airport employee or commercial pilot, who wishes to broaden your industry knowledge base and management and analytical skills with a view to enhancing your career prospects.
Our collaboration with ICAO and the CAA, ACI Europe, and our wide network of associate contributors will provide you with the opportunity to get the unique insights and currency that you’ll need to be able to contribute to highly effective Aviation Operation Management.
Admissions
Curriculum
Our MSc in Aviation Operations and Management allows you to develop your specialist knowledge and interest in the Aviation sector. You’ll have a variety of interesting and diverse assessments to help build the levels of confidence that will support career progression.
Led and developed by our experienced Aviation teams, the programme incorporates an integrated teaching and assessment approach. The course is practice-based, supported by contextual studies, and is structured to allow you to develop autonomous study, where relevant linked to your own organisation. By adopting self-directed and self-initiated study, you can capitalise on your own activities and experiences.
The course examines both general and specific areas of aviation management. It considers the current and new shape of the aviation sector, which needs to operate in a wider risk environment and, especially in the current climate, has multiple issues to face.
You’ll explore the aviation business and operations management; the global context and resilience in the current and future environments. This programme will allow you to build the higher-level career-orientated skills and knowledge that the sector, and you, will need in the coming years. You’ll be exploring and studying aviation in a changed world post-Covid-19 and its impact on the management of aviation operations.
A key focus is ensuring that you are well equipped to operate in the rapidly changing sector. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with external experts and sector leaders to broaden your knowledge, gain exposure to the multi-level issues that aviation faces, and insights into how they can be managed and exploited for organisational success.
This programme adopts an integrated approach to learning. You’ll learn through a variety of methods, including interactive lectures, workshops, case studies, discussions, independent and group study, presentations and problem-based activities.
You’ll also take part in the simulation-based activity. With our unique simulation model facility, you will develop team and individual capabilities in the face of challenging scenarios, where learning by participation is linked to theory and analysis under pressured but safe conditions.
You will be spending a total of ten weeks’ full time in learning sessions at our High Wycombe Campus. These will help you to build your analytical capabilities, confidence and knowledge by engaging with those whose business it is to make aviation operations management success in the most challenging circumstances.
A comprehensive induction programme will be held during the first week of the programme to help prepare you for the course, ensuring you have the necessary study skills to help you gain the best results from this master’s programme. Students are expected to fully engage and attend all scheduled sessions.
