About The Course
The course is designed with both aspiring and experienced teachers in mind. It will provide the tools and resources that you need in order to enhance your teaching skills, reflect upon your professional practice and conduct your own research in the field of English Language Education.
During the course, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of professional competence and the theoretical implications of the practice of English Language Teaching. With an emphasis on the integration of practice and theory, you will acquire expertise in approaches and techniques in teaching language to speakers of other languages and develop a range of practical skills.
It accommodates both early career teachers seeking a grounding in the core disciplines of TESOL and those with considerable experience who are hoping to consolidate or progress into specialist areas of expertise. The course can act as perfect preparation for anyone wishing to teach or undertake a teaching and/or pastoral role either internationally or in an independent educational setting within the UK.

Delivery
There are a number of study modes available; learning methods include Interactive lectures and student and staff-led seminars, directed pre and post-session tasks, directed reading, practical workshops, student and staff-led seminars, and project work. Teaching, learning and assessment draw on the different backgrounds, experience and knowledge of our students, and encourage critical reflection. The teaching style is highly participatory and engages you in practical teaching, workshop activities, online discussion, peer evaluation, presentations and research projects. The programme is supported by a full online ‘virtual learning environment’ which includes readings, discussions, session materials, peer support for assignments, and opportunities for students on campus and online to share professional concerns and debates.
Assessment
We aim to make assessment an integral part of your experience here at BGU. The assessment tasks take a number of forms as all tasks are appropriate to the content and learning outcomes of the module being assessed. These include essay or report writing, online discussions, group tasks, oral presentations an analysis of an educational text. Assignments will be assessed with reference to guidelines provided in individual module assignment briefs and will relate closely to the learning outcomes for that particular module. Assessments are supported by online materials and discussion boards, presentations of work in progress with the opportunity for tutor and peer feedback and/or formative tasks with detailed and feed-forward feedback to assist with summative assignment.
Support
Studying at BGU is a student-centred experience. Staff and students work together in a friendly and supportive atmosphere as part of an intimate campus community. You will know every member of staff personally and feel confident approaching them for help and advice, and staff members will recognise you, not just by sight, but as an individual with unique talents and interests. We will be there to support you, personally and academically, from induction to graduation.
£2,000 international scholarship available. Successful discounts will be awarded on information contained within the personal statement. An awarding panel will be drawn from senior members of the institution.

Application Process
To apply for a BGU scholarship you must first apply for, and have been offered a place on, one of our programmes. Once you are in receipt of an offer for a programme, you have to fill in the application form available on the school website.
You will be asked to identify which scholarship you are applying for and as part of the process applicants will be asked to describe their academic achievements, relevant professional experience and/ or career goal. Applicants should also refer to any other information, which supports their application. This could include, but is not limited to:
- Academic merit – Course entry requirements are met including English Language Requirements, Examination results, transcripts, references, Academic prizes or awards.
- Career Aspirations – applicants should tell us about their chosen career goal and their aspirations to contribute to their chosen field. Applicants should establish the relevance of the proposed academic course to his/her career plans.
- Financial need – Applicants will need to explain their financial situation and how they intend to cover the remaining expenses, should their application be successful. Even with a scholarship, applicants will need to evidence they can cover their living expenses within the UK to meet the requirements for a Tier 4 visa.
- Developmental impact – Applicants should explain how they plan to use their study to develop and contribute to society in their own country. Applicants should evidence any past commitment to ’development’ agendas through participation in relevant projects.
- Extracurricular Activity – Applicants should provide evidence of activities, which has enhanced their graduate attributes for example, examples of volunteering, leadership, charity work.

Whilst BGU offer this range of scholarships it cannot guarantee that your application for one will be successful. The scholarship application process is competitive and BGU reserve the right to not grant scholarships to those who provide evidence of the above criteria, if the application is not of the required quality.
All scholarships awarded will be valid for the lifetime of the programme, for postgraduate applicants this is one year and for undergraduate applicants it is three years.

The MA Education with TESOL programme is ideal preparation for anyone wishing to teach or undertake a pastoral role, internationally or in an independent educational setting within the UK. Equipped with relevant research skills and advanced knowledge about second language acquisition and language learning, you will have all of the relevant training you need to begin your career with opportunities across the world in the field of English language teaching.
On successful completion, you will be able to apply your knowledge of the latest theory, policy and practise of international English language education to a variety of global professions, not only in second language teaching in schools and universities but also in educational management, educational marketing, teacher training, materials development and publishing.
Students graduating with an MA Education with TESOL will find career progression enhanced as a result of following this course. Alongside the MA, for students who wish to progress towards achieving QTS, opportunities exist to complete our pre-teaching course which can assist you with gaining a place on one of our PGCE courses.
Successful completion of the MA can also open the door to further study, this includes the opportunity to embark on your own professional doctorate or PhD. MA graduates may also move on to teaching positions in higher education, to leadership positions within an educational organisation, and/or have the opportunity to move from general English teaching to a more specialised area of academic, business or legal English.
It is ideal for international students/teachers wishing to return home to teach English, in a range of educational settings including international schools, colleges, and businesses.
