Introduction
The UNE offers graduate studies toward both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The duration of an M.Sc. program is two years (four semesters). The program is highly research-oriented and is conducted in the unit's facilities and laboratories under the supervision of UNE faculty members. A wide variety of research subjects are covered at the UNE, including nuclear reactor physics, neutron transport, nuclear fuel cycle, nonproliferation strategies, applications of radiation in medicine, nuclear instruments for radiotherapy, Monte Carlo simulations of charged particles, radiation shielding, and the development of radiation detectors.
The successful completion of M.Sc. studies includes the approval of a thesis dissertation that summarizes the student's research achievements and a final oral exam, in which the student defends his thesis. The dissertation evaluation, as well as the oral exam, are conducted by a nominated scientific committee.
Excellent M.Sc. students who exhibit outstanding academic achievements can apply to join the prestigious Combined Ph.D. Track, in which the M.Sc. thesis serves as the Ph.D. research proposal for the Ph.D. candidacy evaluation exam.
