Introduction
Globalization, culture, society, and development are the articulating axes of modern life. A world interconnected by virtual networks, where the global affects the local, which places the subject as the center of decisions linked to their immediate environment, without forgetting their relationship with the world and the challenges imposed by its transformations. Heritage and sustainable development are two areas of this socio-cultural framework in which actors are linked with their natural and symbolic environment, imposing an inescapable commitment on all societies.
In this vein, San Francisco de Campeche, with its historic center declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1999 by UNESCO, stands as a point of confluence between two aspects: heritage and sustainable development that require special attention and vision towards the future, because, otherwise, the preservation that heritage implies, would end up becoming excessive exploitation of resources, in addition to the transformations and reconfigurations that the socio-cultural aspect acquires from phenomena such as globalization.
In this context, the General Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research (DGEPI), of the Autonomous University of Campeche (UAC), based on an analysis of the offer of Postgraduate Programs for the South-Southeast region, and with a vision Committed to national and local initiatives in the field of preservation, care and education for sustainable development, it creates the postgraduate program: Specialty, Master, and Doctorate in Heritage and Sustainable Development.
This program is also part of the Institutional Development Plan (PIDE), which in its foundation considers necessary the promotion of postgraduate studies to promote the training and updating of professionals, the generation and application of knowledge, and the development of scientific and technological work alongside research in the field of environmental sciences, social sciences, humanities, and creative arts. The PIDE also considers that the postgraduate courses of the UAC must comply with the characteristics of competitiveness, quality, and relevance that are currently demanded and will be demanded in the future. This trend is the result of globalization processes, which imply unprecedented challenges and opportunities that must be addressed effectively and promptly.
