Arizona State University - Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Teaching

The Cronkite School’s Master of Arts in Investigative Journalism is the first graduate degree devoted exclusively to investigative journalism in the country. Led by five Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, the program will prepare students to launch high-level investigative reporting careers at the nation’s most prestigious news organizations. This interdisciplinary program is designed for career-switchers and early or mid-career journalists, particularly those who have some expertise in other fields such as law, health, business, science, and the arts. The program aims to combine that knowledge with investigative techniques and multimedia skills to produce stories with public impact.

Master’s Degree in Investigative Journalism

The Cronkite master's in mass communication is designed to be completed in 12 months. This 36-credit hour program begins with a multimedia “boot camp." From there, students dive deeper into advanced courses in broadcast production, investigative reporting, online media, business reporting, Spanish-language news, transborder coverage, or digital media entrepreneurship. The program culminates in a professional immersion experience in one of the Cronkite School's news bureaus in Phoenix and Washington, D.C. Working under the guidance of award-winning journalists, these capstone programs offer real-world experience in a professional news environment.

Master’s Degree in Journalism

The Cronkite School's Master of Arts in Sports Journalism gives students unparalleled preparation for careers in sports media and communications through in-depth, hands-on multimedia writing and reporting courses. Students have opportunities to cover a range of sports and events such as Major League Baseball spring training, the Summer Olympic Games, and the NCAA Final Four for major-market media partners. Students also complete an intensive professional experience in the school's Phoenix or Los Angeles sports bureaus. The Cronkite master's in sports journalism is designed to be completed in 12 months. In this 36-credit hour program, students begin with an intensive multimedia "boot camp," which teaches students to produce sports and news coverage across broadcast, digital, and print platforms. From there, students take advanced classes in sports reporting, videography, photojournalism, ethics, and diversity and participate in sports bureaus located in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Working under the guidance of veteran sports journalists, they gain real-world experience in a professional news environment.
