Track 1: for AAU BFA in Art Education Graduates
The Art Education Master of Arts in Teaching & Credential Program will prepare you for a career as a successful and innovative art teacher in classrooms K-12. This program is designed for AAU BFA in Art Education recipients and meets both national and California art education standards, and includes one semester of student teaching in a greater San Francisco Bay Area public school classroom, mentored by a master teacher. Once you have completed: all coursework, and student teaching requirements, and passed both cycles of California Teacher Performance Assessment tests, you will be recommended for a California K-12 art teaching credential. For your Capstone project, you will be encouraged to think like an advocate in order to create a dynamic arts advocacy video to educate the public about the importance of art education to a 21st-century creative economy.
Track 2: for non-AAU BFA in Art Education graduates

Teaching Artist
As a teaching artist, you’ll instruct artists of the future in a variety of settings. You’ll develop curriculum and syllabi with Program Directors, and coordinators, as well as lead teachers and establish lines of communication with students and their families.

Degree Requirements
- Prepares students to become successful Art teachers in a K-12 classroom in the United States
- The program meets the requirements of both National and California Art Education Standards
- One semester Student Teaching mentored by a master teacher in a Bay Area Public School
- After completion of all coursework and student teaching requirements and passing all four California Teacher Performance Assessments tests (CALTPAs); students are recommended for a California K-12 Art teaching credential
- Capstone project – Advocate!
Students create a dynamic arts advocacy presentation to educate the public as to the importance of Arts Education for the 21st century creative economy.

- Successful completion of Final Thesis Project
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- A minimum grade of C in all required 30 units
MAT Art Education Track II Degree Requirements
- Successful completion of Final Thesis Project
