Introduction
Master in Heritage Innovation
Heritage, today, is a dynamic concept that also embraces the principles of democracy, well-being, sustainability and change. Its protection helps to rebuild broken communities, to re-establish their identity and to create a link between past, present and future. Often the rich heritage that we find in rural areas is considered static and unchangeable. Instead, it can be interpreted in a contemporary key by hybridizing it with new languages.
The 1st level master in Heritage Innovation promoted by ABADIR - Academy of Design and Visual Communication is aimed at rural areas with the aim of rethinking the cultural project starting from the specificities of the territories and their vital rhythms: companies, traditions , local communities, natural and artistic resources, local energies, using working methods typical of the great European (and non-European) capitals.
Bringing innovation to heritage is an important challenge of our contemporaneity: with a project-based approach, the master combines theory and practice, providing both the essential technical skills to develop a cultural project on a professional level, and a look at innovation, experimentation. of formats, events and site-specific cultural projects.
An itinerant master where you learn by doing , in close contact with cultural designers and avant-garde companies.
To whom it is addressed
Heritage Innovation is an ideal opportunity to acquire specific skills for the development of cultural projects closely linked to the territories and to experiment new ways of doing cultural training and business, through the creation of a system of relationships between assets, resources, territorial values and human capital. .
The Master is aimed at graduates and professionals in possession of a first level Academic Degree or Diploma , coming from humanistic-social, economic faculties, but also to those who have a different university background (design, architecture and communication), if in possession of an adequate curriculum.
Professional outlets
Organizer of cultural events and festivals, project manager, fundraiser, Brand marketing manager, content curator, communication manager, territorial tourism expert, consultant for foundations and public bodies.
Educational method
The master adopts a blended learning approach, which alternates online activities and face-to-face workshops . Of the 8 modules on the program, 3 take place entirely online and 5 in blended mode with a digital part plus a short intensive workshop. The educational path also includes a spring camp, a unique, intensive and immersive design experience, lasting one week.
There will also be masterclasses with prominent personalities from the world of culture, entrepreneurship and design.
Online courses
Students can follow the part online wherever they are. The working environment is the Slack platform, where the project briefs are published and where it is possible to interact with teachers and classmates. Each online module includes 5 videoconferences distributed over the 3 weeks: a short introductory meeting with the teacher on the first day, 3 reviews that take place on Saturday and the presentation of the projects at the end of the module. The calendar of appointments is organized in such a way as to make them as accessible as possible even to those who are working. Recordings of online sessions also remain available on demand. Students can work remotely and in complete autonomy on the development of projects. This makes the master compatible with one's professional or personal commitments.
Blended courses
The blended courses alternate an online part and a workshop.
The online part provides an introductory link with the teacher and self-employment at weekly deliveries. The workshops last 4 days and take place on weekends. Together with the Spring Camp and the Degree Show they are the only activity of the master that requires physical presence. They allow you to get in touch with different realities and territories, to experiment with a plurality of approaches to design, to work in a team, to network.
The minimum compulsory attendance is equal to 80% of the total number of hours of lessons (online and face-to-face). Once the maximum limit has been exceeded, the student will have to integrate the missing lessons by attending, at no additional cost, a replacement module chosen from those of the next edition of the master.
Partner and internship
Each master's course is designed in collaboration with a design partner. The partners have a strategic role for the definition of the briefs and for the knowledge of the territorial context in which the course project will be developed.
Among the partners of the master: Terraforma, CheFare, Unfold, Suq. magazine, Municipality of
Ferla, Mediterranean Palermo.
The internship is a training experience of 600 hours (equal to approximately 4 months) that each student will have to carry out during the teaching phase or within one year of its conclusion.
It can be carried out in Italy or abroad, at one of the partners of the master, in a company or reality of your choice, or through the Erasmus Program , which offers the opportunity to carry out a traineeship in Europe benefiting from a mobility grant.
Who we are
ABADIR is an Academy of Design and Visual Communication based in Sicily, active at different scales in the training of young people on the disciplines of design, visual communication and new media.
We promote design as a transformative discipline, capable of triggering change and we want to train multifaceted designers able to meet the needs of a constantly evolving world. Aware of the social responsibility of the designer, we propose activities that generate virtuous practices in the territory, from the design of material goods and services to communication, also through collaborations and partnerships with Italian and European companies and institutions.
The Academy has a three-year degree course with addresses in Product Design and Visual Communication and in Graphic Design and Digital Media, the 1st level Master in Relational Design, born in 2013 from an experimentation path with IdLab on training online, and the 1st level Master in Heritage Innovation launched in 2020.
